I must add to Karen Schifano's beautiful tribute to Harriet Shorr. For the record Swarthmore College was so short sighted that they did not give Harriet Shorr tenure and so she was forced to leave after all she had contributed to Swarthmore. At the time I was a sophmore and Harriet taught brilliantly and gave me the permission I needed to aspire to be a painter. When she was forced to leave I lost all trust and respect for Swarthmore College. I trudged through my college years there as a psychology major (no art major permitted), until I could graduate and be free to paint. I have been a painter ever since. Thank you Harriet Shorr for your honesty and inspirational life.
