Irving Dayton ’48—Exceptional Physics Teacher

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) named Irving Dayton ’48 a fellow in August. The award honors those who’ve made exceptional contributions to the AAPT mission: to enhance the understanding and appreciation of physics through teaching. He was treasurer for AAPT from 1962 to 1966.

Dayton has been cited in many publications, including the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Physics and the American Institute of Physics Handbook. He taught physics at Princeton University, Swarthmore, and Montana State University before retiring to Corvallis, Ore.
