Madeline Barillo-Flagg ’78

Madeline Barillo-Flagg ’78 has been named Communicator of the Year (District One region) by the National Council for Marketing and Communications. District One covers Canada and the United States from Maine to Virginia. Director of marketing and public relations for Norwalk [Conn.] Community College (NCC), Barillo-Flagg was recognized for her special leadership and ability in the field of college communications and marketing. Under her direction, NCC was featured in more than 950 news stories in fiscal 2008, including 60 cover stories and dozens of editorials. A former journalist, she is a magazine contributing editor and author of four nonfiction books. She is a former New York Times Critic Fellow and served as a dance critic in residence at the American Dance Festival in Durham, N.C. Barillo-Flagg has written for The New York Times, The Advocate/Greenwich Times, and many national magazines. She has also taught journalism and business communications courses and writes a blog on education for Hearst newspapers.
