David Vanderbilt ’76

David Vanderbilt ’76 was elected into the National Academy of Sciences for his distinguished and continuingDavidVanderbiltPhoto1.jpg achievements in original research. Vanderbilt is a Board of Governors Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University. His advances in modeling atomic structures are embedded in most computer programs used by scientists and engineers to understand the properties of existing materials and invent new materials not found in nature. Vanderbilt, a fellow of the American Physical Society, is a recipient of its Rahman Prize in Computational Physics and former chair of its Division of Materials Physics.
