Our oldest daughter was a serious student and a serious competitor in synchro so she chose UC Berkeley to study architecture and swam for the Walnut Creek Aquanuts during her freshman year. She also competed for the Cal club team at Collegiate Nationals, hosted that year by Ohio State. As a veteran synchro mom and, briefly, a member of the Board of Governors of U.S. Synchronized Swimming, I corresponded online with former swimmers who wanted to start teams at their colleges. They needed coaches, pool time, underwater sound equipment and qualifying meets to go to collegiate nationals. Two swimmers from different clubs found themselves on the same floor at Cornell and put together a duet. Not everyone appreciates synchro, but the athletes become masters of team building.
