Nancy Parks Valelly ’52Nancy Parks Valelly ’52 died in Charleston, S.C. Nov. 29, 2016 after a brief, acute illness. In her 60s and 70s she became a successful "outsider" artist and had several shows of her striking, large canvas paintings of Negro League baseball teams and players, African-American church bake sales, and African-American jazz musicians. She was married for over 60 years to the late Richard P. Valelly. Together they lived in many different countries—Brazil, Colombia, Iran, Tunisia, and Venezuela—and went to great lengths to immerse themselves in local languages, histories, and cultures. Nancy leaves behind a son, Richard ’75, another son, Stephen ’76, a daughter, Sarah, and her cousin, Deborah Dempsey ’57.
