The Crum Regatta, a highlight of Family and Friends Weekend, will make no less of a splash during Garnet Homecoming and Family Weekend, now set for October 22–24. All alumni, parents, and friends will be welcomed to campus during the height of fall foliage.

From Oct. 22 to 24, the entire Swarthmore community—alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students—will have the opportunity to celebrate the College together at the first Garnet Homecoming and Family Weekend. Combining both traditional fall Homecoming athletic competitions and events typical of Family Weekend, such as the popular Crum Regatta, the weekend program will also include faculty lectures, exhibitions, and performances—as well as a barbecue.

In the spring, another new tradition will be initiated, when alumni and parents will be invited to campus to attend student performances in music, dance, and theater.

In a March message to the campus community, President Rebecca Chopp said: “Creating new traditions—and reintroducing old ones—offers our College community a wonderful opportunity to collaborate in organizing a memorable celebration for Swarthmore, one that will set the standard for years to come.

“Coming together to shine a spotlight on our campus during one of its most beautiful seasons will be a wonderful way to celebrate the multifaceted lives of our students. The weekend promises to be filled with festivities that will enable us to watch our students and faculty in action and enjoy getting to know one another in new ways.”
